The Austinites

The Austinites is an ongoing portrait of a city told through its people. Photographed on sidewalks, porches, in homes and wherever paths happen to cross, the project documents the individuals who give Austin its particular spirit—strange, tender, defiant and entirely their own.

I began photographing strangers as a way to reach beyond myself and remain tethered to humanity during a time when the world often felt increasingly fractured. Each portrait is a small act of attention: an encounter between two people, a moment of trust and a reminder that there is still beauty in looking closely at one another.

Together, these images form a living record of Austin—not simply as a place, but as a collection of people becoming themselves.
